Guidelines for Awarding Grants

2011-2012

Applications are accepted from ACISD teachers or administrators as individuals, a group of ACISD teachers at a single campus, a group of ACISD teachers from multiple campuses, a group of ACISD campuses, or an ACISD central administrator.

  • Grants from teachers and administrators must directly involve students.
  • Applicants may only request funding for projects for which school or district resources are not available.
  • Previously funded grants are eligible for renewal up to a maximum of three years.  Applicants must indicate on the grant application if they are requesting a renewal and note how many years have already been funded.  Grant renewals are judged with all other grant applications, and renewal funding is not guaranteed.
  • The proposal must be clear and logical and include 1) specific objectives, 2) a clear description of instructional procedures, methods, treatment, and 3) evaluation procedures, objectives and treatments that relate to one another.
  • Funds may be used to purchase equipment or to provide field trip transportation, but not when these are ends unto themselves.  Such expenditures should be just one component of an effective, engaging, learner-centered project integrated with other curriculum materials and activities.
  • Requests for retroactive funding for existing projects will be denied.
  • Grants may be used to compensate experts or resource speakers who work with students, but should not be used to pay teachers or staff.
  • Grants of up to $2500 may be awarded to an individual teacher and up to $8000 for a campus team, department, or district initiated program
  • Proposals that incorporate matching funds or community resources would be considered favorably.  Outside contributions generally indicate a commitment to the project and enhance the effectiveness of the small grant award.

Teachers who receive Foundation grants must agree to

  • feature that grant at the annual Holiday Symphony by the Sea Flavor of Success event that highlights our grants to current and prospective donors.
  • submit an evaluation of the grant at the end of the fiscal year in which the grant was implemented.
