2010-2011 Committees and Responsibilities
ALUMNI DEVELOPMENT
Brandi Karl, Acting Chair
Duties: The Alumni Development Committee
- works with the Rockport-Fulton Alumni Association
- solicits funds from RFHS alumni to support Education Foundation grants and scholarships.
The purpose of this committee is to provide an outreach opportunity for alumni of Aransas County ISD to support their alma mater via contributions to The Foundation for grants and scholarships.
EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE FUND DRIVE
Sig Murphy, Chair.
Duties: The EE Drive committee
- creates a list of potential donors to whom solicitation letters are mailed
- identifies businesses/organizations in the Rockport area where committee members can make presentations about the Education Foundation in order to raise funds and inform the community about the Education Foundation’s mission, goals, and accomplishments.
- solicits participation from the schools to sell dining cards, the profits from which help fund grants in the spring
The Purpose of this committee is to raise funds for teacher grants each spring.
ENDOWMENT
John Jackson (NB), Chair.
Duties: The Endowment Committee
- meets quarterly and reports to the full board in May, August, November, February.
- sets policy for distributions of restricted and unrestricted funds as per donor intent or Foundation guidelines.
- monitors investment management of Coastal Bend Community Foundation funds
- monitors the status of multi-year pledges
- encourages memorials as a perpetual gift or honor
- develops marketing strategies to build awareness and bring new money to grow the endowment
- makes annual distributions (only the earnings are distributed and spent
- manages scholarship distribution, and acts as an agent for restricted funds.
The purpose of this committee is to provide for a growing pool of funds that will permanently sustain the mission of The Education Foundation and to provide donors with opportunities to make gifts in perpetuity.
Subcommittee: Ceramic Tile Project - Suzanne Ransleben, Chair.
Duties: The Ceramic Tile Committee
- developed with local artists (Nanci Barnes, Kay Barnebey, Betty Shamel, Anita Diebel, and Charlotte Shannon Hilton), and R-F- High School art teacher Jody Summers an artistic mural that beautifies the entrance to the Martha Luigi Auditorium and serves as a fund raiser for the endowment fund.
- Markets memorial, tribute, commemorative tiles that the high school art students will produce, in conjunction with the Rockport Center for the Arts, and install around the mural each spring. All proceeds will benefit the endowment fund.
FLAVOR OF SUCCESS
Adelaide Marlatt and Nancy Callan, Chairs.
Duties: The Flavor of Success Committee members
- work with local restaurants and teachers who have received Foundation grants
- host, after Symphony By The Sea, a reception for the public an assortment of foods for patrons to enjoy as they visit with students and teachers who are featuring the projects they have implemented through our grant program.
The purpose of this committee is to offers an opportunity for members of the community to see our grants in action and to understand what kinds of activities their donations fund.
GRANTS
Nancy Callan, Chair.
Duties: The Grants Committee
- reviews all of the teacher grant proposals submitted to The Foundation
- uses a grading rubric to rank grants
- determines which and how many of these proposals will receive funding
- submits its request for funding to the full board for approval in April.
- visits each campus to present teachers with the tools they need to write grants to The Foundation
- offers grant writing assistance
- arranges the Grant Patrol in May where members of the Foundation Board, ACISD School Board, ACISD faculty and staff, and community distribute grant checks to recipients of Foundation grants. (Coordinated by Suzanne Ransleben)
The purpose of this committee is to provide teachers with opportunities to write grants to the Foundation that support district guidelines and enrich student learning, to support teachers in the grant writing process, to determine the validity of each grant proposal, and to deliver grant check to the selected recipients.
MARKETING
Karen Mella, Chair.
Duties: The Marketing Committee
- Supports all events and activities of The Foundation
- Press Announcements
- Photos
- Invitations
- Programs, flyers
- Develops and maintains written materials, promo video and website
- Develops and maintains Facebook (Dr. Neva Kelly and Chris Garis)
The purpose of this committee is to create and broaden awareness for The Education Foundation throughout the community.
PATRONS’ PARTY
Linda Bohn and Karen Mella, Chair
Duties: The Patrons’ Party Committee
- designs and markets a fund raiser each year to raise money for Foundation grants and for the Endowment Fund.
- solicit items for the auction and raffle, send out invitations, arrange for entertainment and food, decorate for and tear down after the event, and solicit sponsors for the event.
The purpose of this committee is to raise funds to support The Foundation’s missions and goals.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Alan Putman, Chair.
Duties: The Scholarships Committee
- sends out scholarship applications via the high school counselors for the Rust Foundation scholarship ($40,000), the Martha Luigi Scholarship ($8,000), and the Trade Scholarship ($1,000). In addition, students who are selected by their teachers as Shining Stars receive Shining Stars Scholarship applications ($750), the number of which are awarded is determined by the proceeds from the Shining Stars Banquet.
- meets once per year to review and rank the scholarship applications
- submits its results to the Foundation Board in April.
The purpose of this committee is to award Foundation scholarships to RFHS graduating seniors. Shining Stars Scholarships are awarded during Grant Patrol, the others at the awards night event for the high school in May.
SHINING STARS
Dion Krupa, Chair.
Duties: The Shining Stars Committee
- works with district personnel to arrange for the Shining Stars Banquet held in April
- arranges for the food, decorates for and tears down after the event, orders the awards for the teachers, creates certificates for each of the honored students.
The purpose of this committee is to provide a venue for lauding the top Rockport-Fulton students and their honored educators and to raise funds for Shining Stars scholarships.
