2010 Scholarship Winners

Margaret Sue Rust Foundation Scholarship Recipient – Elisabeth Rose

$40,000 ($10,000 per year for 4 years)

Elisabeth is a remarkable young woman, ranked number ten in her class.  She will attend Texas A&M University in College Station to pursue a degree in engineering. After college she plans to use her degree to work for an engineering firm and later to open her own engineering company.

Technical Trade Scholarship Recipient – James Newcomb

$1000 one time scholarship

Inspired by his grandfather, James is the consummate chef.  He will attend Del Mar College in Corpus Christi in the fall to pursue his Associates Degree in Culinary Arts.

Martha Luigi Scholarship Recipient – none

Requisites of this scholarship specify that only the income from the corpus of these funds can be used to distribute annual scholarships.  Due to the current market conditions, earnings from these endowed funds did not permit a 2010 scholarship offering.

Choral Scholarship Recipient – Connor Lyon

$2000 scholarship, disbursed at $1000 per semester for 2 semesters.  This one-time scholarship was created by caring individuals who wanted to make a difference in a child’s education.  Inspired by Holiday Symphony by the Sea, independent donors, plus members of the Education Foundation Board, contributed and approved money for this scholarship, which was considered and awarded by the Education Foundation’s scholarship committee.

Connor harbors a passion for music that has directed the course of her life.  She will attend Oklahoma City University, one of the most prestigious musical theater schools in the nation, to pursue a major in musical theater.

Michael Harbour - Texas A&M University, College Station (Geology)
Desiree Perez – Baylor University (Psychology)
Marsha McClees - Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi (Accounting)
